Serving on City Council is a great way to be a part of implementing the change you hope to see in our community. City Council sets the annual City budget, passes local laws called ordinances, and carefully prioritizes City goals based on the resources available to us. The next election for City Council will be held May 6, 2023. To run for a City Council spot, you must file your intent to run at City Hall by the filing deadline. The first day to file for candidacy is January 18, 2023 and the filing deadline is February 17, 2023 at 5:00 pm. To be eligible for the office of mayor of the municipality, a person must be a registered voter and must have resided within the municipal limits for at least the 12 months preceding the election day. To be eligible for the office of councilmember of the municipality, a person must be a registered voter and must reside on election day in the municipal limits (Tex. Local Gov’t Code §22.032(a)).​
